The most popular Bitcoin exchange, MtGox, has been hacked May 19, 2011. The Bitcoin price at MtGox had been plummeting from $17 to a single cent in a few minutes while a hacked account with a large Bitcoin balance had been hacked and all the coins in it were being sold.
Warning For MtGox
- Change your password immediately if you have used the same username/password combination on any other money transaction or Bitcoin exchange site!
- Check out TradeHill and Bitcoin7 for Bitcoin Exchanges. They are both safer and cheaper, even if they at the time of writing have a smaller user base.
